Job Description

Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, high-level disinfection, and distribution of surgical instruments. This role ensures strict adherence to infection prevention standards and manufacturer instructions, collaborating with surgical teams and other departments to maintain the availability of sterile instruments. The technician will rotate daily through various tasks within the Sterile Processing Department (SPD), supporting surgical operations and maintaining quality assurance.

Responsibilities:

• Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and package surgical instruments.
• Perform sterilization and high-level disinfection of instruments following strict protocols.
• Document and perform quality assurance activities in all relevant areas.
• Collaborate with surgical teams and other departments to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments.
• Rotate daily through different SPD functions including decontamination, peel packing, counting, assembling, and sterilizing instruments.
• Pull case carts for surgery and prepare instrumentation as needed.
• Answer phones and coordinate instrument delivery to operating rooms.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in sterile processing or related field.
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification.
• Knowledge of infection prevention standards and manufacturer instructions for use.
• Ability to perform quality assurance and documentation accurately.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working within a hospital sterile processing department.
• Familiarity with surgical instrumentation and case cart preparation.

Special Considerations:

• Strict adherence to infection control and sterilization protocols.
• Daily rotation through various SPD functions requires flexibility and adaptability.
• May involve answering phones and coordinating with multiple departments.

Scheduling:

• Evening shift schedule.
• Rotating daily responsibilities within the Sterile Processing Department.
